When Something is Taken, Something is Always Given

Perspective can change things.

It’s all a matter of perspective. I was not a painter or an artistic creator. I was a science educator living in the left side of my brain. All logic and analytical thought. So what is the story of me now living in the right side of my brain?

Art is a story.

So I was given a gift: compensation for the loss of my left brain. A gift to see with new eyes and a new perspective.

It weaves emotion, observation, and experience all into one beautiful narrative. It is a story of self and others in the world interacting within our chosen environment. My art is my story. My story of healing from a diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis. Imagine all that you hold dear ripped away overnight. MS affects all things related to your physical, emotional, and cognitive self. I became completely out of balance literally and figuratively. My purpose was taken away. I felt I had no worth because all that I was no longer existed.

But as in all things the universe, through various means, does its best to maintain homeostasis. Balance. To show a new path, a new perspective. So I was given a gift: compensation for the loss of my left brain. A gift to see with new eyes and a new perspective.

And it was powerful, filled with color and vibrancy. My right brain woke up and I was set on a path to balance. I have been painting ever since. Painting with form, color, and emotion. What is so vastly important with art, it is all in the eye of the beholder. I hope that others will find their story when looking at my work. They will see the movement of color and form to find their balance, their truth.
