Color Play with Landscapes Watercolor Series

I am in love with our mountain sunrises and sunsets. Most of my watercolors are inspired by the soft, yet vibrant, colors of our mountain dawn and dusk skies. I love laying down a thin film of water on the paper and dropping color into it. Watching the color move and bleed into other colors has become a meditative process for me. But why watercolor and not more acrylic work? I can’t put an easel, canvas, and an acrylic pallet in the bed with me.

As an artist living with MS, I am forced into bed rest often. Bedrest leads to a lot of downtime, which can lead to a stagnant creative process; however, watercolor is easier to maneuver than acrylic work. Watercolor is a medium that sparks creative play, it allows me to become more aware of my surroundings and what’s outside my window. This series captures my newfound appreciation of this medium, acceptance of my diagnosis, and the amazing sunrises and sunsets found through my bedroom window.
